Description

Main Description: Stripe and Dash. A unique design and technique within African Sadza Batik. Stripes and dash give the impression of motion and light. Sadza paste was applied to the hand dyed background and while it is still wet a sharp tool is used to scratch the pattern into the paste. The fabric is left to dry in the African sun. Then the fabric is painted over with black, the paint seeps into these hand scratched lines and cracks. When the paste is washed off, the scratched area reveal the underlying fabric.
