Main Description: Green palm leaf. This piece begins with light green leaves hand-painted against a dark green background. A layer of Sadza paste is then carefully applied, and intricate leaf veins are hand-etched into the wet surface using a fine tool. After baking dry under the African sun, the fabric is painted with black, allowing the colour to seep deep into the scratched grooves and cracks. Finally, the dried paste is washed off, uncovering the intricate vein patterns beneath. Arranged in a step-and-repeat design, these leaves form a bold, repeating graphic pattern.
