Washed Stripe Dutch by Tiphaine Alston
Simple and elegant, Washed Stripe is reminiscent to Old Cape Dutch design while being interpreted for a contemporary audience. A British textile designer and a graduate of the Royal College of Art splits her time between London and Cape Town. Her unique multi-layered and textured artworks are created using a combination of traditional techniques such as screen-printing, hand drawing, painting, collage, and modern digital technologies. This is her second collection of magical designs with RSWallpaper. The ‘Cape Dutch Contrasts’ collection was inspired by the Cape Dutch architecture and landscape in and around the town of Franschhoek. The contrast between the landscape of rippling mountains and neat vineyards against whitewashed structures with their ornamental gables provides a wealth of inspiration. Patterns and textures found within these areas, as well as in the carved doors, thatched roofs and gardens of Franschhoek are mixed with a fresh colour palate to create modern designs with an African edge.
