I grew up in the small mining community of Welkom in the Free State. Though the landscape is barren, much of my days were spent either dancing in a summer thundershower or playing inside a swimming pool in the scorching hot sun. It was a lovely way to lose myself and looking back I now know that it cultivated a strong sense of connection with nature within me.
Photography was the first medium through which I expressed my creativity. I realised at a young age that colour and perspective caught my attention. It was only after seeking a life figure drawing class at the age of 30 that I was exposed to the medium of oil painting. My life was turned upside down – I have found my life work… There is nothing like the mixing and plying of oil pigment. These days I alternate my oil painting with teaching and growing my repertoire as Fibre Artist and Oil Painter. I live in the beautiful coastal town of Hermanus – very close to my muse, NATURE!
