Helmet For Below, 2021

Created in 2020, initially intended as a hand poke tattoo design, this piece uses delicate, meditative stippling done with ink on paper. It is illustrative in form but is inspired by aspects of realistic shading. The artwork has connotations to using our macro experiences on earth to discuss our echoing engagement in shifting to outer space. In outer space and the ocean, humans need special suits to breathe, communicate and have armor as protection against space radiation or water pressure. Both abysses are full of unimaginable wonder and wisdom. Both are treated as invisible waste bins and mines of Earth’s inhabitants. The hope is that in highlighting this, we shift our perspectives of both spaces for the better.
